what is clustering in windows 2003 server pdf ebook

A failover cluster is a group that uses independent computers that work together, which can increase the availability and scalability of role groups (formerly known as clustered packages and services). Cluster computers (called nodes) are physically connected by wires and software. If one or more cluster nodes fail, the other nodes begin to provide maintenance plans (a process known as failover). Also, clustered roles are certainly actively monitored to make sure they actually work correctly. If they do work, restart them or make sure you move another node. Cluster

Failover also gives it Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) functionality where it provides a consistent shared namespace that most cluster roles can use toconnections to the shared storage from all nodes. With the failover clustering feature, users reduce downtime.

  • Highly available or always available storage for file distribution for applications such as Microsoft SQL Server and Hyper-V server computers
  • High availability clustered roles run on physical servers or virtual poppers installed in a running Hyper-V hosting space.

  • Windows 2008 R2 High Availability In Addition To Recovery Features

Dustin Hannifin, … Joey Alpern, Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, Cluster

    Failover 2010

Failover clusters provide high availability by implementing a “failover” process from any primary (active) server to the Lifestyle Serverand (passive). created. Each server in some clusters is called a perfect node. With active/passive technology, one or more servers are idle in case the active server experiences a corresponding failure. In the event of a failure associated with the active node, the inactive node becomes active and resumes all activities performed by the previously activated node. Failover clusters are typically configured for core applications such as Microsoft Exchange Server SQL or Server. On fig. Figure 9.1 shows a typical Windows 2008 Server R2 two-node failover cluster.

High availability and changes < /h3>

Windows Recovery Server 2008 R2 includes several features to further improve availability andpower on the road. This includes new features such as PowerShell to support clustering and the ability to back up written documents and individual folders using Windows Backup.Cluster

    PowerShell failover support

what is clustering in windows 2003 server pdf ebook

Failover clusters can now be configured and managed using PowerShell 2.0. This includes not only the new single-person cmdlets for Failover Clustering, but also the ability to remotely deploy commands to Cluster Services via PowerShell 2.0. With the addition of PowerShell support for the cluster.exe command-line software application, the focus is reduced and will certainly not be available in future versions of Windows.

    Cluster Shared Clustering Scope

Failover supports the use of Cluster Totals (CSV). These are the volumes that multiple nodes in a particular cluster can access at the same time. This brings new benefits to lightweight Hyper-V deployments that enable live migration and especially the low number of required LUNs. Earlier in this chapter, we specifically explained how to use dinamichesky migration to move virtual machines between two hosts in a given failover cluster without downtime. CSV is an available process.

Because earlier versions of Windows could only have one host actively accessing all LUNs, failover caused almost all virtual machines stored on the LUN to fail. Prior to Windows Server 2010 R2, Microsoft recommended assigning each virtual machine in a failover cluster its own LUN to ensure that an individual virtual machine can fail over. In many deployments, this has resulted in one LUN pack being successfully assigned to each Hyper-V host. In Windows Server 2007 R2, this restriction is lifted with CSV, which allows both hosts to access that volume and switch one VM to a real LUN without requiring all VMs on the same LUN to be able to do the same.

    Improved cluster checking

Windows Server 2008 introduced the Cluster Assistant contract. With this wizard, administrators can often easily test and configure each cluster, whichYou need to make sure it is in the new supported configuration. If the cluster has pushed the validation assistant, it must be in the correct configuration. Many additional tests have been added in Windows Server 2008 R2 to ensure that another cluster can be tested, typically using the Cluster Validation Wizard.

Support for additional services that may be merged

Remote Desktop Broker and DFSR can be configured on a failover cluster to provide high availability and redundancy for some of these services.

Ability to merge single files with folders

Windows Server 2008 R1 Backup (RTM) may not be able to directly select individual files and folders for backup. This was the correct functionality offered in earlier versions of Windows such as Windows Server in 2003. Previously, Windows Server 2008 R1 only offered the ability to back up a true full volume. In Windows Server 2008 R2, this feature has been re-enabled so that administrators can selectively select the folders and files that can be included in a backup set.
